'Super Borovets' is one of the most strategic projects in Bulgaria. The concept for this resort depends on the principles of steady growth and excellent financial return of medium- and long-term investments. The completion of 'Super Borovets' is to be achieved in two stages, spanning the period from 2007 to 2012. The total built-up area of residential properties and hotels is 623,500sq.m., including 4- and 5-star hotel complexes. 40km of new ski runs will be built. The area of 'Super Borovets' encompasses mainly four regions: Borovets (1,100m above sea level), Banderata (1,460m), Gvardeiska Polyana (1,620m) and Byalata Polyana (1,310m). The project has all the necessary permits for the start of the first phase. The Super Borovets project is declared to be of national significance, as it is expected to be part of the emergence of Bulgaria in the European tourism market. This is a key step in overcoming the previously-perceived image of the country as a destination mostly for Black Sea tourism.
A ceremony related to the turning of the first sod of the Super Borovets Project was held on 8th October in the area of Pashenitsa, near the town of Samokov. The ceremony was attended by Sergey Stanishev, Ahmed Dogan, Georgi Krumov, Varit Mubarak Said Al Harousi, Professor Stoyan Denchev, by MPs and representatives of ministries and the community of the town of Samokov. The Super Borovets project aims at turning the existing Borovets ski resort into a modern ski region with world-class ski runs and a leading market position in Eastern Europe, with potential for becoming a year-round resort destination. The project consists of the building and development of modern five-star hotels in the Rila Mountain and of the related infrastructure, of 40 km of new ski runs, ski-lifts and maintenance systems, as well as of various sports and amusement facilities. 'Super Borovets' is designed in accordance with the trends in European tourism demand, and will conform fully to the most recent European ecological requirements. This is why its realisation will increase the competitive power of Bulgaria’s supply of winter tourist services and winter holiday properties in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. Partners in Rila-Samokov 2004 AD, the company which is
developing the Super Borovets Project, are Borovets Investment
EAD (with a share of 67%, which includes Equest Balkans Ltd and the
State Fund of the Sultanate of Oman), the Municipality of Samokov (with
25%)
and Glavbolgarstroy (with 8%). Details about price madness in Bansko, golf developments in Bulgaria,
